1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! Thanks ya'll! Love ya!
Wow... How do you think of your favorite memory of your mom?! All memories with moms are fun! I'll try...
Walking to kindergarten through the desert was one of my favorite memories ever! I felt so special getting to walk there with you every day! And like I said, the smell of the desert always reminds me of those walks even now.
I also remember playing with your hands at church as a little girl, so I have every detail of your hands memorized! :)
I remember in elementary school when you came on that field trip to the museum with me. I thought that was so awesome!
I remember all of the soccer games that you came to and cheered me on at.
I remember when you, Candice, and Tara came to my day camp for achievement days and how you were in Young Womens and came to my 2nd year of Girl's Camp. You being there made everything more fun!
I remember you coming to EVERY choir performance and recording it for me and making me feel good about my performances.
Some of my favorite recent memories include late-night chats, you going with Jana and I on one of our middle-of-the-night runs to 7-11, and hanging out, just the two of us, on the 4th of July.
You always made every birthday and holiday fun as well. Like I said, every mom memory is a good memory! Love ya mom!
So I thought that posting on Rachel's would be hard...
So You mentioned SEVERAL of my favorite memories with you on my post, going to seminary with you every morning, and studying the lessons together is definitely one of them!
I also remember one night that I sent a certain missionary off, and was SO upset that night and couldn't get to sleep, but you comforted me and talked to me until I was able to finally fall asleep on the couch in your room! :)
I know there have been SEVERAL chats we've had because of doubts that I had about myself, or things that I didn't think at the time I would get through, and you've ALWAYS been able to make me feel SO much better about myself or the situation I was in! I think that's what being a Mom is all about, and if I may say so myself, you are FABULOUS at it!
I also remember our trips to work, and the songs I'd have you listen too, and we'd both go into work all misty eyed! I also remember the day I got laid off from there, and I think you took it harder than I did, yet you were still able to help me feel alright about it!
I have MANY memories of singing while you were out in the crowd and always being supportive! Several are at church functions were if I ever made eye contact with you (which happens often) You'd be balling your eyes out, and instantly I'd be choked up also!!
I can't thank you enough for giving me so many AMAZING memories and examples to follow! I look forward to MANY more, and I can only hope to become as amazing of a mother as you have been to me and my other siblings! I know that we are all as close as we are because of you! I love you and admire you for all that you've done and been for me the last 23 years. Thanks again!
Sorry, I know I had my turn, but I have to second a couple of Jana's statements:
Mom, you really are the best at calming me down or making me feel alright about things. Remember that one semester of college a while back when I had like a panic attack (you're probably thinking "You have a panic attack every semester, which one are you referring to?!" lol) but I was freaking out because I had too much to do before the end of the semester and you just said "well, what's due first? Do that assignment and then we'll talk about the other ones." And with that "take one thing at a time" technique I was able to get everything done without all of the stress! That's just ONE example of your ability to put things into perspective... there are many!
Also, when we sing in church, I second the "don't look at mom or you'll start crying" part that Jana said. You always make an effort to come to every meeting we sing at and it's always good to know that you're down there feeling the spirit with us! Love ya!
Well as just a daughter in law I don't have as many memories from way back when but I remember you from young women's and girl's camp. I memory that is hard to remember but special at the same time was the night we told you I was pregnant with Stryder. We were so afraid to tell you and all I can remember is you coming into Ben's room and hugging me so tight and telling me I will make a great mother. I know that your reaction made it seem not so scary for at least a little while.
Also you being there out in the hall when Stryder was born.
Late night talks standing in the hallway.
Helping me make biscuits and gravy for Ben's father's day.
And just always showing and giving us such love and support in whatever we do. I couldn't have asked for a better Mother in law. Thanks so much Connie and I love you!
You've all reminded me of a few things I hadn't thought of. Rachel, I remember that field trip and day camp and girls camp - all unforgettable! (I think we have a million pictures of the day camp and girls camp!) It was really fun!
Jana, we've had a lot of heart to hearts in the middle of the night, haven't we? I remember getting a couple of notes on my pillow, too!
And Taryn, how funny! I can totally picture us in the hall talking for hours! And Ben was there sometimes too! Good times!!
My initial thought is of sitting on your bed talking about all kinds of things. You always were great about being really open with us, and helping us resolve our problems. How did I even think I had problems back then? Ü My "problems" may have been a lot different then, but I still remember and use a lot of your advice from the past in my life today, such as: "Why live in fear? If something bad's going to happen, it'll happen whether you live your life fearing it or not. You might as well not worry about it until it does," from when I had nightmares as a child. I also always think of how you told me that financial difficulties in this life will all mean nothing in the hereafter, and that people can take away your home...your car...your possessions...but not what's most important to you: your family. I of course always remember your strong testimony, and how you've shown our family by example that fully living the gospel is the ONLY way we can be truly happy in this life and for eternity. I can picture the happy look on your face when we'd do something together as a family. Especially on those very rare occasions when we'd get up in the morning and attack the house or the yard together. You have always been great about making each and every one of us feel special in our own way, which must be difficult with how many kids you have. More recently I remember how you've been there for me for each one of my children's births. I couldn't have done ANY of them without you! It was so special to share the first few days of being a mother with you. It really opened my eyes to how much you have done for all of us that I didn't even appreciate until I became a mother. Pregnancy and babies are hard work! Then Lydia's delivery, where you were supposed to have Carter for a couple of days...which turned into FIVE! I felt so bad having you take care of such an energetic toddler, but I was so grateful to have my husband during a time that I didn't feel like I could be without him. Of course Meleah's delivery, where you took my kids to the Zoo of all places so that I could have a stress-free delivery. Well, as stress-free as possible. Ü I could go on and on with all the things you've done for me, and all the great advice you've given me. What it all comes down to is: you are and have always been an amazing mother. I feel so fortunate to be your child, and I will forever try to follow the example you have set for me with my own children. I love you so much!
Candice, those five days with Carter and the zoo trip are two of the happiest memories in my life! I'm not going to tell you I wasn't worn out, but being worn out when you were doing something fun is a really good feeling. I loved the times we all talked while sitting on my bed, too. Thanks for reminding me about that. The TV has to be off for that kind of stuff to happen. I wonder if parents should make sure the TV is off for half an hour before the kids have to go to bed - to allow for real conversation with them. Just a thought. Anyway, thanks for the memories. I love them all!
